Sea Door was inspired by the Orkney poet of George Mackay Brown (1921–96). The words of his poem “The Door of Water” conjured up images of islands land and seascapes, framed by the doorways of the old crofts. Echoes of standing stones and the ancient maritime history and island traditions. This is a flat woven tapestry that exploits the different surface qualities that can be achieves when weaving with a range of traditional materials of wool linen and cotton.
