16th – 21st  February.

20th-25th April.

22nd – 27th June.

14th – 19th September.

Nestled within the stunning Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park and set within 100 acres of private land, this beautiful 18th century property is the ideal place to enjoy an art, craft and activity holiday.

This 4day workshop will introduce you to the basic skills involved in creating a woven tapestry, from warping up a simple frame loom to exploring flat woven techniques, creating shapes, lines and playing with colour.

You will be working on a small frame loom, creating a woven sample with a range of traditional materials of a cotton warp and wool weft.  When you are comfortable working with these materials you can go on to explore the variety of surface qualities that can be achieved by using a wider range of materials such as cotton, linen, sisal and paper.

During the course you will learn to

  • Set up a simple frame loom
  • Control your weft tension/how to keep straight edges
  • Create some basic shapes, lines and curves
  • Deal with slits/interlocking weft
  • Consider ways of developing ideas for design
  • Finishing and presenting your work
