8 Mar – 8 Jun 2025
Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries, 1-7 Abbot Street, Dunfermline, KY12 7N
I am delighted to have been invited to be part of this exciting exhibition that bringing together the work of 13 of Scotland’s most inventive, creative and impactful women craft artists, ‘Hag. Knowledge, Power & Alchemy through Craft’ celebrates the knowledge, power & alchemy mediated by their work.
The exhibition seeks to reclaim and redefine the term ‘Hag’ for the current age by celebrating the strength, wisdom, activism, rebelliousness and creativity of craftswomen with ambitious aims to challenge societal prejudices and foster a deeper understanding of the rich tapestry of experiences that women who engage intensively with their craft bring to contemporary culture.
Fife Contemporary are delighted to be working with Curator, Kate Pickering, and our partners at ONFife to bring this exhibition to Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries in March 2025. The featured artists are: Lise Bech, Judith Davies, Caroline Dear, Claire Heminsley, Fiona Hutchison, Ruth Elizabeth Jones, Gilly Langton, Jo McDonald, Susie Redman, Patricia Shone, Carol Sinclair, Amanda Simmons and Emma Louise Wilson.
I will be exhibition Turning the Tide and 5 knots. This is work that I have developed over the last few years that explores the technique of manipulating strips of woven tapestry to create a more 3 dimensional structures.
Turning the tide is a large installation tapestry that I developed during lockdown. It consists of 15 individual strips of manipulated tapestry and plastic. Reflecting on our continuing consumption of materials and recourses. Combining discarded and undervalued materials with the traditional woven tapestry I hope will make us re consider the value/beauty of what we use and through away. This work can be hung in a variety of different arrangements in response to the exhibition space. It is approximately 175cm x 280cm depending on arrangement.
