About your course
Weaving the line – Drawing in tapestry. This workshop will introduce you to a range of techniques to create woven lines and marks in tapestry.
You will be encouraged to mark make with a range of drawing materials. From pencil to chalk, charcoal and inks before translating the marks into a woven sample. You will be able to explore the great variety of marks that can be translated into weave, from fine lines, bold painterly strokes, 3d lines whipped on to the surface, or lines scratched into the structure of the weave.
You will learn to
- Set up a simple frame loom
- Weave straight and curved lines
- Eccentric wefts
- Outlining shapes
- Ressaut (floating weft) and whipped lines.
- Finishing and presenting your work
Level: Beginners and developing weavers
The course is designed for beginners – weavers with little or no experience but is also suitable for students developing and building on existing skills. The workshop is structured to provide individual tuition in small groups of 4-6 students.
Weekend Studio Workshops £140
